Opportunities There are various options open to you when you are trained as a Coach. Outlined below is a summary of these options and how the School can work with you in becoming established in the profession. 1. Self-employed - Sole-trader business You can set up as a business person, with your own business name, and be self-employed. You might choose to work alone or gather together a group of coaches. Either way, you will need a business identity, including business cards and a marketing strategy. Most coaches choose this option. The NZ School of Coaching offers students with modules which address this option.
2. In-house Coach Many companies are beginning to employ trained coaches to work in-house. In most cases, you will be salaried and will work with the staff within the company. Sometimes, a company will contract you to work for them. You will then need to be self-employed. The School will help you set up the structure for you to do this work.
3.
Licensed Coach – The Professional Coaching Company The NZSC is involved with the Professional Coaching Company, of which Margaret Wyn, Principal of the school is an Executive Director. The Professional Coaching Company offers licenses to students/graduates of the school who wish to work within a coaching organisation. This involves working as part of a coaching team, all of whom have different areas of specialty. A very unique marketing programme is put together for Coaches which means that you do not have to spend much time doing your own marketing. Business Cards and a business plan are provided as well as ongoing supervision and training. Becoming a licensee involves taking part in a selection process and meeting certain standards. There are many benefits to you in having a license. If you are interested in this, you may like to request a “licensee Overview” to see what is involved. The School provides an induction process for you if you choose to take up a license.
4. Affiliation/Co-operatives There are many coaching co-operatives around the world. Sometimes it is useful to investigate those you would like to be associated with. They tend to provide a source of networking and resource for coaches. This means you are still self-employed, and will need to put together a marketing plan. The NZSC helps you do this.
